BOOLARRA & DISTRICT HORSE & TRAIL RIDING CLUB Inc. RIDE REPORT 22.4.12

Barktown

Trail Boss- Teresa Lead Rider - Maurice Drag Rider - Mick First Aid - Tessa

Sunday the 22nd of April saw the day begin with dark skies and a sprinkle of rain. Arriving at the Pony Club grounds, the clouds slowly began to clear, although some riders were still unsure about taking a rain coat. You never can tell, sometimes you need a coat and gloves and other times your sunscreen, and all within a 10 minute time frame!

After our horse-less muster, 15 riders, including new member Linda, mounted up and were ready to ride. Tessa’s lovely big horse, Connor, made sure Tessa  was ready to ride by putting on a saddle-bronc performance for everyone to see, not what you really hope for first thing on a Sunday morning!! Then, being led by Maurice we rode out at 10am heading for Barktown.

A short ride through Boolarra township and then into the Barktown bush saw us on some undulating tracks that were nice and sandy under-foot.  Maurice led the way on the track that he had ridden on both his horse and motorbike a number of times to ensure all was good for the horses & riders. A small section of the bush was smouldering from burn-offs , however this proved uneventful as the track was not burnt.

After crossing Fishers Rd we made our way up a long sandy hill which gave us beautiful views of the neighbouring farms, then across Barktown Rd and into another section of the bush. The sun started to shine and the horses were relaxed and enjoying things, what a great way to spend a Sunday!

Heading back towards home, there was lots of talk of the BBQ that was waiting. Many thanks to Russell & Brian for cooking us up some yummy snags and Chelsea for making the delicious brownies & cookies! We rode back to the floats, unsaddled and tended to our horses, then sat down in the sun for some lunch. We had spent a total of 3 ½ hours in the saddle so a relaxing Sunday barbie was perfect after a great ride like that.

Thanks to all who attended, both riding & on the ground.  Hope to see you all at the next ride.

 Teresa.
