Hiyas!
This is hally aka Babs/Barb coming to you live from my comfy puter chair in the
city of Long Beach, NY which is east of the Big Apple (that's what they call New
York City for all you Aussies). The Atlantic Ocean is my backyard, hence the
name of the city. If you've ever flown into LaGuardia or JFK you have probably
flown right over my house.
I work as a second level support person for a major credit card bank where my groups supports 4000+ users. What that means, for you non-techies, is that I go to the user's desktops to fix their computer, printer and application problems, also I configure and rollout (techno-term for deliver to the user) desktops and laptops. Believe it or not I learned most of what I know from helping out in online chats and newsgroups. I can be found online when I'm not playing trivia on MSN chats in #Windows95/98_Talkshop and #Pirch which is my chat client of choice (of course Prober is the client of choice for trivia). I'm also an Assistant Forum Manager for Safe Computing and Internet Explorer on MS Computing Central (as is Ron aka/Samwise aka/SuSEketeer aka/whoknowswhatnickhewillbenextweek) and help out answering questions in the newsgroups. Ron also lives on Long Island but alas he's in a deprived neighborhood that has no cable modem access :-)
I got my first computer in January 1997, and met Rob soon after in a chat on MSN (darn, the name of the room escapes me but it started with an M) when it was still for members only. I somehow mentioned that I was a fountain of useless trivia and he invited me to come play MindProbe. Back then it was played in #Marsmission. Well I got addicted and have been playing ever since, following Rob to MindProbes. I was soon to find out that I wasn't quite the fountain that I thought, but that never stopped me. So many people have passed through and I miss the ones I don't see whether it is that they have stopped playing or because you Aussies play at such an ungodly hour of the morning <G>. So hiyas to Vic, the Tracy's, Patt, Scotty, Brendan (remember Ambrosia, did we ever learn her real name?) and the slew of other former MindProbers who have come and gone or who I don't get to see on a regular basis (Chris you don't count as I saw you in the tournament!!)
Before I was a puter jockey I worked with racehorses, made patterns for ladies dresses in NYC's garment district, and then waitressed and bartended. I enjoy playing FPS games (first person shooters like Quake and Half Life) going to the beach when it's nice enough (why else would I live in Long Beach) and movies. I also love meeting online friends so if anyone is going to be in the NYC area please let me know and we'll get together for a drink and some laughs!!
